Response and Subscription Mailing Lists


Often times, compiled consumer mailing lists will not work for your product or service. In this case, a magazine subscription or a response mailing list is an alternative. Perhaps you are trying to reach people who enjoy gourmet cooking or those who are sports enthusiast's…magazine subscribers may be a good approach to reaching them. Although many subscription lists do not enhance their list with demographic information, this is an excellent way to reach someone who has expressed an interest in your market. Subscriber mailing lists are generally more expensive and they do require a sample mail piece prior to placing an order. If you are selling a product that is in direct competition with their magazine, chances are they will deny usage or add a competitive offer charge to your price. In addition, most subscription lists are not selectable by zip codes. You can usually select by SCF(first 3 digits of the zip code) or by state. A subscription list may not work for you if you are limited in geography. Just ask your mailing list broker if a particular magazine subscribers mailing list is available.

Another way to target a consumer by habit is with a Response Questionnaire List. This mailing list is compiled from a questionnaire that is sent to millions of households several times a year. Responders are asked to check interests/hobbies, mail order purchases by type or frequency, etc.. You can even select by particular ailments suffered by them or someone in their home. This is also considered a premium list and is more expensive than a basic consumer list.
